I recently had a friend help me get set up with a new desktop computer after my laptop began crapping out on me. In the process unfortunately, all the game files for this project were lost, meaning I would have to start over from scratch. As saddening as this was at first I think it was all for the best, the programming i had built the bedrock of the game on was subpar and I kept running into roadblocks that made progress slow if not impossible. I recently decided to start over from ground 0 with all the lessons I had learned so far and am feeling much more confident in the game's tragectory since restarting. I also have the added boon of a much more fleshed out concept in mind than when I first started programming the "first draft" so to speak, so the path ahead of me is feeling much more clear.

So far I have built the player movement and colision system, camera movement, and player state machine, as seen below (all sprites are temporary and were drawn via mouse in the span of 5 seconds). My next goal is to create npc's who can be interacted with and have their own state machines allowing them to follow the player, stay put, or wander around, as well as givng both the player and npc's an inventory system.
